The IT wing of Indian Railways, Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) has developed an enhanced interface to get live train status. It gives train running information like current location of train, live train schedule etc. to the public. The interface is called as NTES Train Enquiry.
What is NTES?
NTES is the backend system that collects train running information on near real time basis. Then the collected live train information is distributed through various interfaces likewise face to face enquiry, mobile interfaces, and Website etc.
The NTES interface is known for its compatibility, speed and richness of train running information. A light weight mobile applications has also been launched for various platforms. NTES Android App is one among them that serve various types of enquiries.

NTES stand for National Train Enquiry System.
What are the features of NTES Train Enquiry?
Below are some of the features that National Train Enquiry System (NTES) interface offer:
- Spot Your Train: This feature lets the users spot running train with diverse information.
How to spot running train:

- Enter train name/No.
- Select Journey/Boarding/Arrival station.
- Select Journey/Boarding/Arrival date.
- Choose either Boarding /De-Boarding.
- Click on view full running.
- Live Station: Live station feature gives you the live running status of trains between two stations within the next 2-8 hours.
How to use this feature:

- Enter station to get trains.
- Select the Within Hrs.
- Click Go.
- Trains between Stations: This displays the list of trains that are available between two stations.
How to get the list of trains between stations:

- Enter From
- Enter To
- Select Type of Trains
- Click Go.
- Train Schedule: This feature give the schedule of a selected train. Not only that it also, allows to save or print the schedule.
How to get the train schedule:

- Enter train name/No.
- Click on Print train schedule to print the train schedule.
- Trains Cancelled: All fully cancelled and partially cancelled trains are listed under this feature. Fully cancelled trains are trains that are not running from source to destination. Partially cancelled trains are trains that are not running in a part of route.
How to see the list fully or partially cancelled trains:

- Just click on the appropriate button.
- Rescheduled Trains: This feature gives you the list of all rescheduled trains.
How to view the schedule of rescheduled train:

- Click on the train number to view running.
- Alternatively, you can search for rescheduled train by entering Train No. and Start date.
- Diverted Trains: All diverted trains information is listed under this section.
How to view the diverted trains:

- Click on the train number to view running.
- Alternatively, you can search for rescheduled train by entering Train No. and Start date.
- IR Train Tracker: This feature lets you track the train running status on a map.
How to track train running status on map:

- Click on IR Train Tracker (you will be redirected to different URL).
- Enter Train No. /Name.
- Select Journey Station.
- Select the Journey Date.
- Click Refresh for live train enquiry.
- Avg. Delay: This displays the average delay of a train at all its public stoppage stations for last 7 days.
How to know the average delay of a train:

- Enter train name/No.
- Click on Print average delay to print the average delay of a train.
- Manage Favorite Trains, Stations and Train Schedules: It is the additional feature that comes in NTES or National Train Enquiry System interface on mobile devices. With this feature manage your favorite trains, stations and train schedules by bookmarking or marking favorite.
How to access above NTES Train Enquiry features through a web browser?
- Just open your favorite web browser.
- Go to www.trainenquiry.com or enquiry.indianrail.gov.in.
- That’s it.
What is NTES Web interface?
An interface called WebNTES was made public to access NTES through a web browser.
Can I find live train status on mobile phone?
Yes, you can find the live train status on mobile phone by visiting one of the above URLs from mobile phone browser. The alternative way is to download and install the app depending up on your operating system.
Where to download NTES Train Enquiry App?
- Just go to the respective play stores or app stores.
- Search for the app with name NTES or National Train Enquiry System.
- Click on the Install.
