I wanted to postpone my journey from 6th June to 11th June on ticket booked through IRCTC Website online in the same train and same class along with the same starting point and the same destination point. Tickets are available on 11th June with the same class. Kindly let me know.
Please visit the nearest railway station with a ticket during working hours.
By mistake I entered 21st October instead of 28th October while booking a ticket online through IRCTC, and it got booked. On checking at one of the railway stations reservation counter and also from the IRCTC FAQ, I got the answer that it’s not possible to change the reservation date, even by personally visiting the reservation counters. Only option is to cancel the ticket and book a fresh ticket.
My question is if the postponement and preponement facility could be availed by those booking on counters, why should this facility not be extended for online booked tickets? Is IRCTC trying to encourage reservation counter bookings and discourage online bookings? If I am wrong, please share a way I could postpone my travel booking date without cancelling my online booked ticket.
@Sridhar, The date of journey on Confirmed/RAC/waitlisted tickets can be postponed in the same/higher class or for the same destination on payment of prescribed charges. This facility can be availed only once.
If you want to postpone the date of your journey, you should surrender your tickets during working hours of reservation office at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train in which originally booked subject to restriction during 1st hour of advance reservation period opening if any.
